Lloyd Pastoral discuss co benefits of providing feedlot feedback to their suppliers
“Theres so much mutual benefit in sharing feedback with our suppliers because ultimately at the end of the day we’re just feeding an article, so if we can get this information back and producers can actually see where they can make improvements to their bottom line which in turn helps us, that’s fantastic all round. ”
Katie Lloyd owns and operates Lloyd Pastoral alongside her husband Scott, running a 10,000-head feedlot near Condamine in southwest Queensland. The business has been operating for over 30 years, with Katie and Scott taking the reins in 2009.
Lloyd Pastoral adopted Black Box Co’s feedlot feedback system to efficiently deliver performance data to their cattle suppliers in a clear and easy-to-understand format.
“We’ve always had access to feedback through our existing software, but Black Box just brings it all together in a really good format, that allows us to easily share it with our suppliers,” Katie explains.
Katie believes that having access to this kind of data is valuable, not just for the feedlot, but for breeders too.
“At the end of the day we can only feed the cattle, we can’t change their genetic make-up, but with this sort of feedback [from feedlots], I think it goes some way for breeders to [analyse their performance and] hone in on their genetics and see where they want to take that. ”
Katie believes Black Box has become a powerful tool in helping producers understand the data received from processors and sharing that back up the chain.
“I think we operate in a very disjointed industry. You’ve got you breeders, backgrounders, feedlotters and processors,”
“Getting all that information from birth through to the plate is hard, and I think the system goes some way to letting people put all that information together and that’s great to see.”
